Read Proverbs Chapter 6

God's Hate List

These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

~ Prov. 6:16-19

There are things that God loves and there are things that God hates.  The righteous lord loves the righteous.  God loves it when we dwell together in unity with our brethren.

Read Psalm 15.

1. A proud look

When someone is filled with pride it often comes out upon their countenance.  We must never forget that pride was the original sin.  None of us are self-made.  Who we are is a result of all of those that have poured into US during our lifetimes.

When we become proud we are showing our vanity that we believe for some reason we have been able to attain some level of greatness or superiority due to our own nature.

We have nothing that we have not received.

We should look people eye to eye we should never look down upon anyone and we do not need to look up to anyone.  This does not mean that we should not show good manners and respect to those are in authority over us.

We should not think more highly of ourselves than we want to think but we should think soberly realizing that God has dealt to every one of us a measure of faith.

2. A lying tongue

We can use our times to bless or to curse.  As believers our tongues should be used to bring blessing to all that hear us.

Lying is deceitful and when we lie we are doing so to protect ourselves or to cause harm upon someone else.  These are untruths that God hates.

It is better to tell the truth and get into trouble than it is to tell a lie in order to get away with something.  There will always be a payday someday.

3. Hands that kill the innocent

Of course to kill or to do murder is the epitome of destroying an image of God.  God has given our hands to do good not for evil.

This is a reference to murdering someone because we have some ill will in our hearts towards them.  This does not mean that it is wrong to take a person's life in order to protect your own life or the life of someone in your family.  It is unfortunate but it is not wrong to take someone's life as a result of warfare.

This prohibition of hands that are swift to shed innocent blood is specifically aimed at premeditated murder.

It would certainly include the purposeful murder of the unborn.  There could be no one more innocent than an unborn human being and for the lives to be taken away before they take their first breath is unjust and immoral and is certainly on God's hate list.

4. A heart that devices wicked imaginations

Jesus taught that what defiles a man is what comes out of his heart.

As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.

When an evil or impure thought enters into our minds we should reject it outright.  We should not dwell upon it and allow our minds to elaborate upon it.

Before we take an action we usually visualize what it is we want to do.  This is the essence of an imagination.

We can't instead allow our minds to think upon heavenly things.  We have the ability to set our minds on things above and not things on the earth.

We should not mind earthly things. (Phil. 3:19)

5. Feet swift to run to mischief

Sometimes people are simply looking for trouble.  They are indeed troublemakers.  They love mischief.

To be this way does not proceed from the nature of God but from the nature of the enemy.

We certainly can be innocently trapped into some form of mischief but we should not be looking for it or running towards it.

6. A false witness

A false witness is someone who knowingly gives false testimony to hurt another person.

The worst case of this is when a person is called as a witness to testify against someone that has been accused of some crime.

False witnesses someone that is willing to lie in order to see somebody else punished.  They are usually rewarded for this in some way.

If they do not repent of this their ultimate reward is yet to come because they will die in face God in judgment.

7. He that sows discord among brethren.

Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

~ Psalm 133

God loves it when his children are enjoying unity.

God hates it when people purposely interrupt this!
