Does this Portion of Scripture Contain any Commands that I Must Obey?

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Exodus 20:3-5

I have bolded and highlighted three direct commands in the verses above - I KNOW that there are more.

Commands are typically easy to recognize.

But you must take care as to look well to the context of the command.  Is it a command given to everyone (and therefore,you) or was it a command given to a specific person or a specific group of people.  Or is it a general command that is given for everyone, with "you" being understood as the subject?

Who is Being Commanded?

Three Groups of People

32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

I Cor. 10:32

This verse above identifies three groups of people: Jews, Gentiles and the church.  The church is made up of both Jews and Gentiles.

So, at least, it is important to identify "is this command for Jews only or Gentiles only or is this command for the New Testament church only?  Or does it extend to EVERYONE with "you" as the subject being understood?

This passage was definitely given to the the Hebrew people, but I believe it extends to ALL people by implication of "you" understood.
