Read Ecclesiastes Chapter 6

God Wants You To Enjoy Living

There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is common among men:

A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.

... All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.

~ Eccl. 6:1-2, 7

King Solomon refers to himself at the beginning of the book as "the preacher."  The Hebrew word for "preacher" alludes to an assember of people.

The Kings of Israel were required to personally make a copy of the Torah (first five books of the Old Testament), read it regularly, and keep it with him at all times.

A major theme of this book of wisdom is that "a man's life lived only for the temporal is vanity."

There is no lasting satisfaction that comes from having things or doing things.  Only in fearing God and obeying Him.

However, if we live our lives with loving God as our main theme, then anything and everything that comes to us from God should be enjoyed while we have it.

We have also a New Testament perspective upon this:

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

1 Tim. 6:17-19

Everything we have is a gift from God.

God is the Sovereign of the universe and anything and everything we are that is good has come from Him and it is the normal design of such that we enjoy what God has given us.

For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it? (1 Cor. 4:7)

Even our natural abilities or spiritual gifts come from God.

God did not make a mistake when He created us or when He gifted us.  He delights in seeing His children use their gifts.

He delights in seeing his children enjoy the things that He has given them.

Keep God at the Center

We must never forget what Lord Jesus taught us about giving and receiving.  The very best way to enjoy something that God has given us is to give it to someone else.

It is more blessed to give than to receive. (Acts 4:35)

While enjoying ourselves what God has given us, we must remain thankful to Him for giving it.

Every good gift comes from God. (James 1:17)
