Read Habakkuk Chapter 1
Why Doesn't God Intervene?
12 Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.
13 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?
~ Hab. 1:12-13
This is one of the most-often asked questions posed by people that accept that God is all-powerful and good: "Why doesn't God stop evil?"
Is there more than one God?
Yes. There are many gods that are worshipped. They are called "false" gods. Many times, figures are either carved or molded to represent them.
11 Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
~ Ex. 15:11
Do these false gods have power? Yes, but their power is limited.
The Creator is the almighty God and there is no limit to His power.
There is nothing that exists that He did not create, and that includes these lesser gods. They still answer to Him.
They had been given the responsibility to watch over the nations. They were given authority over certain physical territories on the earth. They were supposed to "watch" and care for the Creator's human family. However, they rebelled against God, their Creator and began accepting worship from the human beings that they were supposed to be serving.
The Creator did NOT create them to RULE over men but to watch and report and serve them.
These lesser gods are NOT creators.
Is there a Creator God?
Yes. There is NONE like Him. He is the ONLY supreme God and authority.
Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
4 For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.
5 I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else.
7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.
8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the Lord have created it.
9 Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
~ Isa. 45:1-9
There is the ONE and ONLY self-existent, eternal God.
15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
~ 1 Tim. 6:15-16
He is THE King of kings, He is THE LORD of lords, He is THE GOD of gods.
What is the Creator Like?
He is:
- Eternal: having neither beginning nor ending
- Holy: completely separate from all else
- Omniscient: has all knowledge
- Omnipresent: is in all places
- Omnipotent: has all power
- Love: concerned for His creation
... and more.
Can We Trust Him?
Faith or trust is built upon the conviction of three of God's attributes:
- God knows everything, so He knows what is best for me.
- God has all power, so He can do what is best for me.
- God is love, so He wants what is best for me.
The result: God ALWAYS does what is best for His children.
Why doesn't He act according to His nature?
He does! He always acts in ways that are 100% consistent with His Holy Nature. God is loving, but LOVE is NOT ALL that God is. God is merciful, but Mercy is NOT ALL that God is ...
... and we are made in His image. This should help us understand this easily.
I don't know you but I love you and I would do anything that I could to help you.
However, if you attempt to murder someone I love, you will NOT experience my love, but my wrath. I will kill you if I can to stop you from murdering someone that I love.
God always acts according to His perfect nature. You can trust Him.
