Does this Portion of Scripture Contain any Promises that I Can Claim?
7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
I have bolded and highlighted a couple of statments in the passage above.
There is a warning in this text, which seems to be what people most readily see when they first read the passage.
This is understandable, since negative news tends to get attention more easily than positive news.
However, in this passage, there is a wonderful promise that we should embrace.
- We reap what we sow.
It is like planting seeds in a garden. If we plant bean seeds, then bean plants will emerge in due time.
There are a few things to consider regarding this promise of sowing and reaping.
- We reap what we sow.
- We reap exactly what we sow.
- We reap later than we sow.
- We reap more than we sow.
Don't give up ("faint not"). In due season we WILL reap, if we faint not. Keep doing what is right. Keep obeying God. Keep sowing spiritual things. You will reap someday!
