Read Isaiah Chapter 1

Let's Be Reasonable

18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

~ Isa. 1:18-20

The book of Isaiah begins with his message of repentance to the northern kingdom of Israel before it was carried away in exile to Assyria.  Jonah, Amos, Hosea, Micah, and Isaiah were all prophets that preached repentance to the kingdom of Israel.

This was God's goodness to them to turn them from idolatry and to prevent them being overrun and scattered as a people.

The Invitation

God says, "Come."  Come is an invitation.  Unlike "Go" which would be a command.

Jesus offered His own invitations to come.

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

~ Matt. 11:28-30

The invitation has been phrased several different ways and is offered repeatedly.

37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

~ John 7:37-38

Another invitation to come is recorded in the Apocalypse.

16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

~ Rev. 22:16-17

"Let us reason together" is the divine invitation.  God says, "Let's talk about it."  God wants to make you clean.

We are all guilty because we have all broken the law of the King.  We have all sinned against a holy God.  Yet, he invites us to come.

It is a "whosoever will" type of offer.  Do you want it?  Come and get it!

The Benefit

The benefit, of course, is forgiveness of sins.  The benefit is the renewal of a right relationship with God.

Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

~ Psa. 103:1-4

Be reasonable!  Return to the Lord and receive forgiveness.  Be restored.  Be healed of your sin-sickness.  Be made alive.

Get your reservation for your home in heaven!

Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

~ 1 Pet. 1:2-5

The Alternative

It doesn't make sense for you to say "no".  If you refuse this offer of mercy, then mercy will not be extended to you and all there is left is judgment.

Don't be unreasonable!

20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

~ Isa. 1:20

This reminder only adds to the appeal to come.

Don't refuse.  Don't rebel.  Yield and come!
