Prophecy is more than forecasting the future.  Most people today think of prophecy only in this sense, but to the Hebrew worshippers of the only One living and true God, a prophet was primarily a "preacher".

A prophet claimed that their message came directly from God, this is true, but if they did not "lift up their voices" and show God's people their sins, they were not prophets, they were only teachers.

This is most notable when we learn that the prophet Daniel was considered a teacher, and not included in the Hebrew's Bible with the other prophets.
